Helloooooo, blog readeeeerrrrrssssss! (must be read in Oprah Winfrey’s voice)
Sorry I haven’t posted in over a month. That was totes my bad. I’ve had quite a few blog ideas that I thought I’d write about, but I just could not get myself to sit down and write them.
But have no fear, underdog I am here!
And I have a question for you.
What is your ministry?
Now I know what you may be thinking.
“I’m not a pastor of a church, so I don’t have a ministry.”
“I don’t lead a small group, so I don’t have a ministry.”
“I’m not a missionary in a 3rd world country, so I don’t have a ministry.”
Well, I hate to burst your bubble on this fine Thursday morning, but that doesn’t excuse you from not having a ministry. Don’t get me wrong, I am by no means trying to downplay the role of a pastor, small group leader, or missionary, as they are definitely important roles in our Christian faith.
What I’m trying to convey is that YOU (yes you, blog reader) are a ministry. A walking, talking, Holy Spirit filled ministry. Your everyday life is a ministry to someone looking (& there is always someone looking).
Don’t believe me? Well, let’s do a fun exercise.
Close your eyes (or don’t, I can’t see you), and think about the people you see every day. They could be your family members, classmates, colleagues or what have you. Got it?
Okay, now think about how you carry yourself around them. Are you someone that people flock to because of your positive attitude, or are you the one they avoid because you’re kind of a negative Nancy? Do they ask for your advice on personal matters, or do they steer clear of you because you’re unapproachable? Do they see a light when they interact with you, or are you in the shadows coasting?
Okay, now open your eyes.
The world may not know what it is about you that makes you approachable, wise and full of light, but they know that it’s something different. We weren’t all called to preach in the pulpit on Sunday’s, or build homes in a far away country.
But, we were all called to live a life that reflects the life of Christ.
And that is your ministry.
